Now MSFT is not letting me create the lovely little iFrame, but heck their satellite imagery is way Superior.BTW - these two show the location of my parents home in case you cared to know.

Blackberry V Windows Mobile Smart Phone
Mrs. C requested that I capture my thoughts on the pro v cons of using a phone powered by the Microsoft Mobile Windows OS after many years as a dedicated BlackBerry user. The phone I am now using is the Samsung Blackjack so some of these comments maybe caused by the Blackjack or the custom OS install it came with.
I should caveat my thoughts by stating that some of the capabilities missing from either device may actually be their and it may be my ignorance that is preventing me from achieving what I want to do.
Pro Blackberry:
1. you can read everything with the thumb wheel - The smart phone interface has the last 8 applications on a horizontal short cut bar, the thumb wheel on my phone only will let me select the first app so if the last thing I was doing was looking at my calendar then I have to move the cursor sideways to get to tee mail icon - and guess what the wheel can’t do sideways only up and down. The solution is I have moved predominantly to use the circular thumb based four way cursor control - this is harder to do one handed for me – definitely increase the danger while driving ;)
2. Audio profile exceptions - on the Blackberry I can create a profile for how the phone should behave when it receives emails, sms, phone calls etc and then specify exceptions based on individual phone number or more importantly email addresses, this is vital for me so that at night while on call for production issues I can allow an email from our alert system wake me up but not be awoken by other emails. The only way I have solved this is to switch over to use SMS for alerts and then allow any sms to wake me up - not a great solution as Hotmail sends me an SMS whenever a contact emails me. So I am still looking for a solution here.
Pro Smart phone:
1. Lots of applications - I love having pocket MSN, much better than attempting to use the blackberry clients or applications for instant messenger. I have installed a tone of apps like local search etc and they all perform well.
2. Fewer sync issues with my calendar - my Blackberry had many issues with duplicate appointments and deleted notices staying in the Blackberry. The smart phone works much better, I only have one issue which is to do with individual appointment changes to reoccurring appointments not updating on the phone.
3. Pop email - I now read all my email through my phone, hotmail, gmail, and work and sms. Very very good productivity gain, I may have been able to do this on my BB but I never got round to finding out how and the Smart phone just takes you straight there.
4. Reading attachments - unquestionably the Smart phone deals with attachments better, zoom and pan work great on large docs too. I can’t wait to get Windows mobile 6 installed as it will have mobile office too (the is a major hole in Windows Mobile 5 for smart phones)
That is all for now, I would like to finish by saying thought that I won’t be going back, the benefits greatly outweigh the disadvantages.
